Standard fuel heater in 300Ds?
Hi,
I found this question on a SVO-burning autos forum. There was no reply, but I am definitely interested in knowing about it, so any info would be appreciated. The quote is below: The 300D has a fuel heater as standard equipment. My user manual says: 'The fuel thermostat is a bypass valve that directs the fuel supply around the heat exchanger, mounted in the cooling system....this permits reliable starting and running in low ambient temperatures' Also from the handbook: 'The fuel preheating system becomes effective when the vehicle heater is switced on.....' Has anyone got any more info' or knowledge about this system? Temperatures, activation of thermostat etc. Any info on this would be great, thanks JMH

This only applies to newer OM60x-engine vehicles, at least OM602 and OM603 engines had it for sure. It routes the fuel up along the feed to the heater core when temps are low. It may help with VO but more is needed. And you'd probably want to modify the fuel t-stat so it's open all the time (in the position that routes to the coolant lines).
The older OM617's didn't have this, AFAIK. HTH, |
