Auto Trans Shudder
Recently acquired 87 190 Turbo Diesel Automatic.
The transmission shifts fine except for an occasional jerk when taking off. The transmission seems to ingage drive but then when you accelerate the transmission makes a jerk as if it wasn't in drive. (If that makes sense???) I serviced the transmission with a new filter and used a synthetic blend of fluid. Now the condition occurs more often. ![]() Would the type of transmission fluid have any affect on this condition? I read an "alldata" post about this and it made reference to draining out 5 liters of fluid and adding a different fluid and listed a part #. I called the dealer and they told me they just use fluid from a barrel nothing special. ![]() Any help is appreciated!! |

Did you drain the torque converter when you replaced the filter?

It could happen
Some times if the tranny is in its twilight days, the infusion of new arguably thinner fluid to the process can have the affect of making a slight slip into a worse one. The old dirty fluid is thicker and provides a bit of friction to the worn clutches. The new fluid mix is cleaner, thinner and no longer aides the worn clutches in providing friction/preventing slippage. Save up now, cause she sounds like she taking on water...so to speak

I didn't drain the torque converter.
I did notice that the old filter had a Mercedes symbol on it and the transmission looks very clean. I was thinking that possibly it had been replaced not too long ago. |
