odd power steering groan

Hi,

I have an odd problem with my power steering. Ill start from the begining...
This past summer, Every now and again when hot, Id hear a slight groan. From searching, I figured it was either the PS fluid needed refreshing, or it was the ball joints. I replaced the PS fluid and filter, and it has been fine since.
Was great in the rest of the summer heat, all winter, etc. Twice now, I have driven the car, let it sit for a number of hours, and when I start it up again, I get a very loud groaning noise when starting to steer and move the car.

The last time it was barely noticible, now it is very loud. This time it is very intermittent, and only after the car has been run and sits for a while.
The fluid level is perfect, and Ive never added any fluid. (I have MB PS fluid in there BTW, I feel that new ATF wouldnt be as good of an option).
The last time this happened, it would go away quick. Now it requires full turns, all the way to one side, then all the way to the other (a couple times) to fix it. Doing this once stationary seems to fix it.
No leaks seen or noticed on driveway. Level of PS fluid stays constant. Filter is ~7mo old.

Any ideas? I seem to hear a faint belt squeak, but cant tell from which. Could a belt thats a bit loose cause the pump to intermittently not pressurize enough, until sufficient load is applied (i.e. stationart wheel turning)?

Any help or info is most appreciated.
Thanks

JMH

UGH! Now its happening all the time... Make it stop, make it stop!!!

I think PS fluid and filter change wilbe in order anyway. The fluid browns out nearly as soon as it is put in, no matter what, maybe the filter has gotten clogged all of a sudden...
