Still considering 86 560SEL & 84 300SD- engine info needed
Some of you may remember me considering a 1986 Mercedes 560SEL, with 124K. I had about decided to pass on it after I seen some here post that it is probably due for timing chain, etc. They still have the car and I was thinking of going to look at the car again tomorrow, drive it and make a offer. I have two cars I am selling. Need to sell one in order to pay cash for the car. I was wanting to know the loan value of the car, incase I was to get the money from the bank. I can find KBB trade-in value and private party, as well as NADA retail, but no loan value. I am thinking loan value is close to trade-in. Does anyone agree or know where I can find loan value? I am thinking since the car is still setting there and not sold, they may accept a much lower cash offer than their original $4900. asking price four months ago.
In addition, I have found a local 1984 300SD for sale. It is a 1-owner car, gray, in GC for $2400. I have not seen it, but have seen it advertised. I am not sure which one to get, if it in as good of shape as the 560. I would rather have the diesel, since the better MPGs and reliability. For that much less money, I am guessing the SD is the better buy. I was also considering a local 1990 BMW 735iL extended wheelbase sedan for only $3500. I think it was sold however. Any info/advice appreciated.

I have an 81 SD and aEuro 86 500 Se though not the same car as the 560 they are similar. You sure are talking about two different cars even if they are both 126's.
My SD gets right around 28 MPG and has adequate acceleration but sure is not like the gasoline V8 .I get between 16 and 20 MPG with the SE, sure would drive them both. My SE though driven less than the SD cost at least twice as much in up keep and fuel........... William Rogers......... |
