I turn on the heater and smell diesel...

Ok, we had one heck of a snow storm here and I actually had to use the heater in my 74 240D... Worked fine, but I smelled diesel when I turned the blower on.. Im sure this is not a good thing. I figured it may because there was snow and ice covering my outside vents, or is it something more serious?

Check your injector overflow hoses (rubber hose that goes from injector to injector) for weeping and/or leaks.
