Noise Encapsulation Panel for 1981 240D
Dear friends:
Does anyone know whether a noise encapsulation panel (under the engine) ORIGINALLY came with a 1981 240D ? Mine does not have it. Thank you for your information. Best regards, Eric |

I am not sure what you are talking about, but I will have to take a guess and say no. However there are these pannels that you can add that surround the engine. There is also better hood pads, which will lessen the cab noise.

None of the W123 chassis ever came with a sound encapsulation panel. The 1987-up E-class (300D, E300, etc) have two, one under the engine and one under the tranny. And the 1986-1995 S-class diesels (300SDL, S350, etc) have them as well. All the older cars have NOTHING. There was a thread here where a guy added his own sound wrap to the engine compartment using industrial 'glass mat, and said it made a BIG difference in noise. Looked like a lot of work, and maybe $100-$150 in material. He had nice photos, do a search and see if you can find it...

Dear gsxr & 123c:
Thank you very much. I did believe that old Mercedes cars do not have a noise encapsulation panel. Best regards, Eric |
