Congratulations!
That is one of the nicest 300D's i've seen, besides mine as it was 15-20 years ago. That chrome on the rear bumper is so perfect and the body is so straight and tight, it makes me sad that I've let mine slip little by little into a further frazzled state. I do have to admit, it has 390,000 miles on it. It is a California car so the rust factor is negligable, I can one day bring it back up to snuff. The single worst thing has to be the leather seats, they are hopelessly ravaged. Arzosah- mine consistenly gets 25mpg, must be that massive bulk. 240Dieseldog- it is a 115. 114's were the 6 cylinder gassers, either in the large or small body style.

I thought you all might like to see the receipt for the purchase of a 1975 300D - it was $12,000 in 1975.

Looks like the only difference is the color and you have leather. What I think is really cool about these cars is the window washer foot pump. It took me a while to find it! I'm trying to attach a picture of mine.

Your car looks great. I'd love to spend a few hours on the paint. Clay bar, Zymol, a good wax it would really shine.

115, I bought one the same color and model a couple of months back from a young couple in Snohomish. I live in Kent and have been driving the car quite a bit including commuting to work south of Tacoma. The car will run interstate speeds with no problem. Handles good and is comfortable. The seats and interior need work and I need to paint it, but I will get that done soon enough. After seeing yours, I think I may repaint it in the stock yellow instead of going with a color change as I had though of before. Maybe I'll run into you (not literally) somewhere in the Seattle area. Congrats on a good deal!!

W115's
My Brother-In-Law who lives in Bothel drives a dark green 1974 240D W115 with a four speed. I've seen quite of few W115's around lately in our area. Can you send a picture of yours? What color are you thinking of going to? I like the dark green best.

I was thinking of going to a dark blue metallic, base coat/clear coat. I have seen photos of similar paint on some european 115's. I saw a very beautiful one in Norway that had just won an auto show. I'm thinking of redoing the interior with grey leather seats and the rest in M-B Tex or possibly custom stitched in ultra-suede. I'm also planning to have all the chrome redone by a custom chrome shop in Portland. I don't know the name of the shop but one of my collegues at work builds, of all things, low-riders and has had incredible results from that shop. He is also planning to help me with all the body work as he has developed quite a talent with a long board sander. It's a long term project, but I think it will be well worth it in the end.

I hereby by decree insist that you must immediately surrender your vehicle. You may do so by having it loaded on the first auto transport to the DFW area, where the vehicle will be immediately picked up, and driven daily by me!!!
Seriously, you have a jewel, enjoy it!! |

1975 300D First MB
I recently purchased a 1975 300D. I bought it from a local older gentlemen that had bought it for his wife when she retired. It had 40,000 miles on it. the inside is great and everything works. They let it set outside a lot,so it does have some rust and needs paint. I have a apointment to get painted. It runs great! I really like the way it drives and handles. This is my first MB. Don L

That is the BEST way to buy your used Merrcedes pay full price for a mint condition one with no "issues" at the outset, it will prove worth it in the long haul, and the "long haul" is why folks go after those old diesels, right?
Those things REALLY get the job done! Good catch! Enjoy it! These are for sure 1,000,000 mile candidates- with luck you will get to that mileage, the car is engineered to make it there.... I definately concur with those who say agreed value insurance is a good idea for a car like this.
