My oil pressure guage starts at 0 but then when the engine is started goes to peg. Is this a problem with the guage needing calibration or is it a problem with the sensor on the engine itself, and how can I fix this or recalibrate it.

It's working the way it should. It should peg at 3 when you're driving and not go below 1 when idling. In rough terms anyway. Some engines are okay idling at 1/2 or 1/3 but that scares knowledgable owners.

I think in 1984 they still have an oil pressure line running into the dash to the oil pressure gauge. No sensor and no electronics. So if your feet start getting oily - this is where its coming from.
