Hey guys
Im just considering to buy a 1985 500SEL and i was wondering if u could tell me what to look for in this particular model, i mean the owners of such cars must know what breaks down most often or what is prone to fail. I have a 190D so i know most Diesel problems but this is different So if you guys can give me some insight.. thanx Car is: 1985 500SEL 202 000km 5.0 L engine Auto trans Original paint All electric with heating seats |

Might also post this over in the "Featured cars" and "Open Discussion" forums. Lots of guys with these gas w126 cars over there.
Trannies seem to be good for about 200K miles(whatever that is in kilometers). AC/heating air doors/valves/flapper-thingees(whatever) are vacuum operated, and tend to get vacuum leaks. Can be a real PITA to trace down and fix. Beyond that, they're built like tanks

I have two diesel MB's and maybe a third on the way .But I also have a Euro 500 SE with a Euro 420 engine and it is a total pleasure to drive whether on twisty mt. roads. freeways (it's real meat) or town driving. Mine cost about twice overall compared to my SD in maintence and fuel cost ........ William Rogers.......
