Passenger side rear window stopped working
I rarely use the rear windows in my car - however the front power windows get used regularily. Today I used the rear passenger side window for the first time in three weeks. It went down but not up. The fuse seems okay. Any advice?

Mine has always been like this - my advise is to push it up - if someone lowers mine thinking it will go back up I can help it up with my two hands while someone else pushes the button. I am in Florida and almost always use the AC or just don't bother with rear windows so I haven't been in a hurry to fix that anoyance.

just to add - on the center consol there should be a push button which prevents back seat passengers from lowering the windows I try to have my disabled so they don't lower that faulty window.

If it's not the rear window lockout set, it is most likely the console switch. If you are careful, you can take it out, disassemble it, clean and reassemble.

I had that happen and discovered that there is a "breakaway" ratchet that is a safety feature. It breaks if anything gets stuck between the window and frame as it is being raised. It prevented injury to (in my case) my dog's snout.
It is a cheap repair, but I don't know the details 'cause I had it fixed by the mech. at the same time as my windshield replacement.

I second LarryBible's opinion. These switches get dust/sand/hair etc. in them over time and simply need a good cleaning out every now and then. It's a simple polarity reversing switch. It is the place to start.

Switch cleaned, window will not go up, even with someone helping try to lift it into place. I will have to look further. But where?

if you can pull it up with your hands without much resistance, try this: lower the window 3/4 of the way down using the switch, then, manually pull the window up to about 1/2" before closed. Then use the switch to run the motor in the up dirrection untill it catches the window and takes it up the rest of the way. If you can do this with the window the plastic slide is broken, the part is about 10 bucks and is easy to fix.

If you havn't already, it may be time to remove the door panel so you can jumper/ test the wire etc. Put your ohmmeter/voltmeter to work and find out where the circuit has stopped. You do have a Haynes manual or something for a wiring diagram I hope. Let us know your progress.

Your problem is most likely with the slide, but if not, then the motor may just be worn. If the car is older the white grease is probably dried out. While the window motor if older may have enough torque, together with gravity, to lower the window, it will not have enough torque to raise it. On my 85 300SD both rear windows had the same problem when I purchased it. On one window the slide bushing was dried out and gunked up and just needed to be cleaned up, while the other had a cracked slide bushing which had to be replaced and then the motor itself was locking up. I took the motor out and connected 12v to it. About once in 20 times it would just lock up and required a manual spin to get moving again. I unpluged the motor with the window up so it would never get stuck down. I then bought a replacement motor from a scrap yard for $50. It has worked fine since.
