If the rod bearings have failed and are knocking, you should check that the rod's big ends have not become "egg-shaped." If they have you need to rebuild the rods otherwise your new bearing will fail in about 20,000 miles. If the failure was strickly lubrication related then you might get away with "just replacing the bearing."

Do you mean that if it goes away it is the rod bearing or the injector ?

Seems like this is like taking a spark plug wire off each cylinder on a gas engine.. and if the knock goes away it points to the rod bearing...

But can't tell from the phrasing which way you meant....

I think it could mean either.
