So far so good!

First of all we checked the fuses... and found out why the horn didn't work.:p

Then we shorted the lines as described, and sure enough, the clutch did engage. It's not blowing cold air yet, but hopefully recharging it will do the trick. My husband is going to talk to the 'refrigerator guy' where he works to find out about recharging with R12.

I'll also have another go at manipulating the CD manual. Yes, a search engine would have been logical feature
