A/C help please????

Went to install new drier and new comp. Noticed two missing "ports" on the new drier for electrical connections. If you look at the picture you will see the red one and the other to the bottom left of the screen. HELP

Well, I guess the parts shop messed up.. or you did not match up your old one to the new one.... take it back and get the one that matches what you need for outlets and connections...

The left one (red) is the temp switch - remove the protective cover (if there is one - hard to see) on the new r/d and screw the old temp switch in after applying a touch of refrigerant oil to the O ring. Beware these red switches come in two thread sizes and chances are your old one will be the wrong size. Happened on my 1983 300sd. The temp switch tells the aux fan to come on at 100C. The new r/d needs 20cc of refirgerant oil.

The right one is the pressure switch which will disable the compressor clutch (and hence prevent the compressor from running) if your freon pressure is inadequate, to prevent damage. It, too, transplants to the new r/d when the protective cap on the new r/d is removed.

If there are no protective covers, return the r/d and get the right one.

I illustrate some of this on my web site - see the cars-Chassis section for a/c work.

My bust gentlemen, sorry. I saw the ports had bolts in them and were painted over. I jumped the gun and thought they were not removeable. I remember a few years back when I helped my bro-in-law do his A/C system on his Benz. The drier he received looked like mine. his ports were blocked and we had a tough time making do. All is installed and working fine. Thanks
