Normal parking brake behavior?

For as long as I can remember, the parking brake has not worked the way I _feel_ it should work.

On a slight incline, after I depress the parking brake with reasonable force (not light but I don't STAND on it either) the car will move a couple INCHES (about the same distance that I would expect before the transmission in PARK would stop it). If I REALLY jam on the parking brake the car will stay put.

I had it adjusted a long while back at MBA but the behavior didn't change. I'm just curious to see if this sort of thing is normal.

I get a bit of movement like that when releasing the service brake after setting the E-brake, even with the tranny in neutral. In my case, it's the front wheels shifting 'cause my guide rod mounts are bad. If I don't have the service brake applied when I set my E-brake, I don't get the movement.

Just a thought...good luck!

"If I don't have the service brake applied when I set my E-brake, I don't get the movement."

If you mean the main brake pedal, then this would make sense. The car will have rolled as far as it's gonna roll w/o the main brake on...so then, applying the Ebrake would only cause it to stay where ever it ended up.

The Ebrake should be strong enough to hold the car still all on its own...or so I think.

parking brake.

Just had my parking brake adjusted in my 1990 turbo diesel.
pedal used to go almost down to the floor.. same thing a bit of movement.. my mechanic adjusted it tight then backed off 1 setting and now parking brake is 100% better.. all orig oem from factory.. now car would hold on a hill in san francisco with no problem... my driveway is on an incline and now i barley have to
push it halfway down and she doesnt budge an inch...
very happy with it... thought it was shot.. just simple adjustment
and cleaning did the trick...
