AC-vacuum linked problem?
Used the AC on my '83 240D for first time last week. Engine was shut off while AC still running, and had considerable "run on" of the engine after the key was turned off, as with a vacuum problem.
Since I've not used the AC since, the problem seems to have gone away. Anyone else ever have this happen? Diagnosis? |

The A/C system uses vacuum controls to direct the airflow to the vents, defroster, or heater. Your system has a leak there. That leak allowing air in caused the vacuum shutoff mechanism to have less vacuum, thereby operating slower.

I just reread your post and realized you said 240D. Yes, even the 240D's "manual" system has vacuum pods. The vacuum is supplied by the green line with the yellow stripe. It goes to the compressor control knob. That knob supplies a pod on each side of the console. They are accessed pretty easily by dropping the under-dash panels.
