Wriggle, pound, scream, cry, stand on your head, rattle the steering wheel, beg, whatever it takes to get back to position 1.

I'm not sure, will have to check the CD on removal, but I think there you can remove the plastic part of the key and get the security ring off, then the tumbler out.

Otherwise, it's dremel time, and you will have to grind through the security ring (bezel) to get to the latch for the tumbler.

Buy a new tumbler and key, if you haven't yet.

I'll post again after looking at the CD.

Just looked -- get key into position 1, and insert a stiff wire into the lock holes on each side. wire needs to have a 45 degree slant on the end, points outside. This will release cylinder and key.

I'd guess you are in deep do do if you can't get it into position one. Try some WD40, wriggling key, etc. Don't try to force it witha pair of pliers, though, it won't work. Pulling and pushing on the key may help.

Car will probably be worth more if you use something a little less dramatic than C4.....

I'll check in with my mechanic on Monday -- have to pick up some parts anyway.

Happened to me too twice before.
but it usually comes out when you turn it all the way back to on position. Of cource it wont cranck now.
Then while wiggeling the key and wiggeling the steering wheel, you may be able to get it out. Works for me
