Windows wont roll up
The manual windows on my W115 220D seemed to have siezed in the down position.
One day, when rolling them up from down, it made a loud clunk on the first turn and siezed up... the handle has about 1/2 turn of play before it locks on both sides. The window wont budge. Any ideas before I pull the panel and investigate? And special tools? Should I let a pro do this? |

This also happened to me with '73 280 (114)
Pulled the door panel and found that channel controlling window up-down had merely dropped one of its supportive bolts..... making it wider at bottom than top, causing the window to sag below normal down position, off ballance. Recovered the bolt from bottom of door and secured it with locktite.... an easy fix that requires no special tools. Once you have figured out how easily the door panel is removed, the rest is simple too. You should probably tighten all other bolts and screws while you are in there - also grease all moving parts, except the mechanism that holds the door open.... you want this to grip and not let the door slip shut. |

Been there too. If it's not what 240DieselDog says, then check the gears. They're held in by rivets and they will break in time. I have one repaired by a bolt with real thin head and nut that I ground from a normal bolt and nut, another repaired by putting a steel rivet in. Both methods are working for me, so far.
The door panel has one clip at about a 45deg angle toward the front. The rest point down. When you get the junk off the door panel, the panel comes off by lifting (gently) then pulling up and back to get that 45deg clip loose.
