Remove W123 Rear Springs w/o Compressor?

I have a parts car 300D sitting here and a 240D that needs a set of REAR springs (I believe). I would like to remove them from the 300D and I do not have the "correct" compressor. Is it possible to safely remove them without a compressor? Perhaps by removing the halfshaft , then unbolting the top of the shock with the car on its trailing arms and then jacking the car up? I will have a shop install them on the 240D so I'm not worried about that aspect.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Rick

Borrow or Rent a legit spring compressor for your MB... this is very dangerous stuff to deal .... Also make sure your life insurance is up to date...

My rear springs are sagging and I'm wondering the same thing. Standard spring compressors won't work for this or they just don't work as well/easily? Also I heard there are many different spring rates on the springs denoted by a color marked on it, but when you buy it on fastlane there isn't any choice?!?

One of the stupidest things I've ever done while working on my cars is I had the strut assembly off of my talon in the vice disassembling it with an air ratchet. I was moving right along, took the top nut off, without spring compressors!!! The spring flew up in the air probably about 5', and over another 5'! Somehow it came nowhere near me at any time, thank god.... I made sure all of the other ones I had to do not only had it on there, but where very secure after this.
