Can we put newer seats in a 84 300d?

Hello all,

I hate my car seats so much that I almost bought another car this week. I am debating internally weather or not to respring them or just buy some new corbeau or something. Is is possible to put in a later issue seat such as a 126 or even newer. I would like to upgrade to leather if I can.

Would there be alot of need for modification if I Change the seat to something different.

ANy help as always is greatly appreciated.

thanks

bob c

Bob, the best thing you can do, in my opinion is to install a new spring in the bottom part. You will not believe the difference.

I hate the seats in these cars too. I rebuilt the seat in my car, and while it was worth it, it is nothing like the seat out of a modern car (i.e., still soft and unsupportive). The corbeaus are a good idea, and the company even sells a frame so you can install it in the w123, but the problem lies in how to connect the seat belt buckle to the new frame and be sure its safe.

Don't know if you can install a seat out of a w124 or w126. Question has been asked many times, but apparently no one has ever tried it. I know the seat in my w124 is much lower than the seat in my w123, so I think if you were able to install it, the position would be all wrong.

I had an 82 300SD and bought a new set of seats on ebay from a 1986 car. They fit perfectly, except that I needed to swap the seat belt holders from the old seats and put on the new ones. Huge difference, but probably not as much as a new seat frame would make. But the upholstery on my old seats was shot, too.
