Emergency fuel
I run out of diesel in front of a grocery store. What do I buy in there that will get me to the next diesel station?

If the so-called "Iodine Factor" tests are any indication,
of the relatively common and moderately priced grocery store options, Canola oil is the least likely to produce harmful carbon deposits, while Soybean oil will have the greatest tolerance of low temperatures. If I were to find myself in such a situation, I would pour in a gallon of kerosene from the camping supply aisle first and then add a gallon or two of the vegie oil, prime the injection pump, and try to do all this before the motor cooled down. On the other hand, in cold weather, just get the kerosene and run on it.
