Tranny leak. What do ya think

Hello everyone,

I just bought a 87 300d with a tranny leak. I did not notice it before buying it. I feels stupid.

Anyway, It is leaking from under the torque converter.

last night I replaced the filter and gasket just in case I could get lucky. I put new washers in it from a kit at auto zone. I matched them up as best I could and went with the smaller diameter ones. Now after I did that it did not leak at all. I ran the car a good 30 minutes. I was very happy. Now the car is leaking again.

Could it be a broken drain plug or not having an oem washer in there. I also torqued it down to 15 lbs instead of the 11 specified. I would think that if it was bad seals in the tranny it would leak right away like it did in the past.
Why would it not leak and then 12 hours later leak?

Oh well

thanks

bob c

Mine that I just bought is doing the same thing. We looked at it last night and it appears to be a front seal and it drips down center area, under the front, just like yours.

My mechanic buddy said it's the front seal and the tranny needs to be slid back for repair. There is apparently a diaper of some sort or a shiels that can hold the leaks, but not stop them.

I'll advise what it takes to fix mine.

Good luck with the car, they are great wheels.
