Don - you do know that hood will go into the vertical position don't you? Look at the drivers side hinge and you will see a little "tab" that you can press on and allow the hinge to open a little more. Next go to the passenger side and do the same thing. The tab on the drivers side will then "lock" it in the vertical position making jobs like this awhole lot easier.

Jim:
Yes, mostly I work with it vertical but my garage door is in the way so I have to tie it up. The car is jacked up high enough that the hood contacts the garage door when fully vertical. Thanks Don

Thanks.
That is what I've been looking for. Its a pain to always ask someone else to do the downsizing. Don

Don ...a few questions for you....did you replace eng & trans in one lump or seperately? How high did you have to jack up the fron of the car?/ And fianlly, did you remove the radiator in order to get the engine up & over into the bay - looks a very high lift for the hoist.

I mated them up outside the car and put it in as one piece. Yep, had to remove the radiator, etc.
I've done a couple others now and its not too bad of a job. dp

good work
so far. i wouldnt be surprised if the 240 and 300 clutch is the same. i don't know for sure.
i am planning a stick conversion for my 82 300d. i may use a 280sl euro flywheel with the nine inch clutch. the fw is ten pounds lighter than a 240 though so the engine will be a bit more bouncy i think...at idle. when we did mine we couldnt find any marks and the flywheel seemed to be neutrally balanced. i would have it checked for neutral balance to be sure though, probably. good luck. if you need a pattern for the fiver shift rods i could prob help out. i have one with the motor out of so i prob can get pics and measurements if need be. tom w

Aloha,
By any chance have you established a connection for 5spd and additional parts for swapping trannys from Europe? Hawaii! |

i had a china blue 240 that looked like that a few years back. i had the back pushed out and kept driving it. after collecting a pretty piece of change from the person who rear ended my lovely #3 daughter in it.
