Unhappy Diesel Won't Shut Off

I was recently told by my MBZ mechanic that my 82 300sd was in need of a shut-off valve to stop the car properly. I have purchased the valve and gasket but have no clue how to install it. Can anybody give me detailed instructions? Thank you!

Be real, real careful with this one. Do a search on shut off valve and make sure you understand the replacement procedure. Installing the shut off valve is an easy diy'er type of job but if done improperly can destroy an engine. Look at the back of the injection pump between the ip and the oil filter housing. You will see the shut off valve. Two fasteners hold it on. Make sure the new one goes in the right way.

When you get the new shut off valve you will see that the actual
shut off arm is shaped like an "L". The part of the L that is perpendicular to the cylinder layout has to "catch" in the internal shut off part of the injection pump. Take you time and pay real CLOSE attention to how the old one comes out and put the new one in exactly like that one comes out. Make sure it "catches" on the shut off part that is internal. Try pulling out the shut off valve when it is lined up to bolt up. It should not pull out.

I concur with the all knowing engatwork. First do a search, please ask questions if anything is unclear. After I did the valve on my 124 I applied vacuum and made sure that the "STOP" lever depressed prior to turning on the engine. You may consider the same.
