300 SDL shocks..

I would like to change my front shocks on my SDL. I have never tried to replace shocks before and was wondering the degree of difficulty.

It seems pretty straightforward. My only concern is, does there have to be tension on the shocks to replace? Can they be replaced on the ground or do I need to raise the car up?

Thanks

You can replace front shocks without lifting the car if you're strong enough to compress the shocks by hand and keep them compressed long enough to get them in place. It's easier for me to lift the corner than hold a new shock compressed so that's what I do. No need to pull the wheels. Crank the wheels over to the right when working on the left shock to improve access to the lower bolts.

Sixto, what do you mean by "lift the corner"?

I mean get the wheel off the ground. I should have said lift the car allowing the wheel to dangle.

If you're still shopping for shocks, I am very pleased with the Bilstien HD's on my 87 SDL.
for the rears you remove the base of the rear seat, then the seat back of the rear seat to access the top of the shocks. front & rear is straight forward realitivly simple job.
