Do I need the drain tube when replacing a OM603 water pump

hello all,

I am going to change my radiator, water pump, belts, hoses this weekend.
I ordered the water pump from my bro who works for a dealer and did not get the water pump drain tube with the new pump. The shop foreman said that I do not need it. I want to run that by you guys before I get into the car.

What does that drain tube do. does it go any where or just drain off coolant in the event of a water pump failure.

Also I am taking off the intake and changing out the glow plugs and what not.

Any other helpful hint are always appreciated.

I will get the car back from merecedes with a new turbo YEAH BABY

thanks

bob c
