Do I need the drain tube when replacing a OM603 water pump

hello all,

I am going to change my radiator, water pump, belts, hoses this weekend.
I ordered the water pump from my bro who works for a dealer and did not get the water pump drain tube with the new pump. The shop foreman said that I do not need it. I want to run that by you guys before I get into the car.

What does that drain tube do. does it go any where or just drain off coolant in the event of a water pump failure.

Also I am taking off the intake and changing out the glow plugs and what not.

Any other helpful hint are always appreciated.

I will get the car back from merecedes with a new turbo YEAH BABY

thanks

bob c

The drain tube hides small traces of leakage at the water pump "weep" hole. YOU don't need that hose!!

Make sure to replace the plastic injector line clips as they keep the metal lines from breaking due to to vibrations.

Thanks doc,

IT is great to have guys like you who know what is going on.
I figured that my brothers friend knew what was up also but damn that guy is busy I hate to press him for long explanations.

He sent me a bunch of new clips for the fuel lines.

Thanks again.

I am going to redo all the rubber and plastic vacuum line.

any thoughts on wether or not they need to be spec or can any small diameter plastic line do

thanks
