Zoom Zoom Zoom, New turbo in my 87 300d

Hey folks,

Just got the car back from mercedes with an invoice of 3300 dollar (at whole sale price) for my trap replacement with new (rebuilt) turbo.

YEAH BABY.

The car is alot faster now. I can almost say that it hauls some but. THis is by far the fastest diesel that I ever drove. It pulls very hard and is not that bad off the line either.

Now I will change out all the vacuum line to make sure it is sending all that boost to the alda. I can believe now that this car can do 125 mph with out any problem.

I am looking forward to better mpg too

see you later.

And if your turbo is damaged with the trap-ox still in place, they will replace your turbo for free. I have a feeling that's what happened, but the bill was still written up as $3,300 which he didn't have to pay.

Turbodiesel
What are the symptoms of diesel withdrawal? Do you get the shakes, sort of like when you had the diesel at idle?
Or maybe a rash, like when a fuel line separates when you were under the hood and dumps fuel all over you.
Sort of makes it all come back doesn't it.

hello,

No I did not have to pay for it. The invoice is what they are goin to charge mercedes corperate for the work.

Man she is a fast ride now. As fast as I need any car to be.

I am very pleased with it. I guess that the trap was clogged.

When I first bought the car my 84 300d was as quick if not quicker. I changed out the fuel filters and I thought hey what an improvement. Now after the trap and new turbo holy (*&% this car is quick.

see you later

Anything you have in the way of factory recall documentation (document numbers) would probably be helpful to anyone else that might come across a 1987 300D/SDL or 1986 300SDL that still has the trap oxidizer.

There was some discussion a while back about whether or not Mercedes would still perform a turbo and exhaust replacement under the old recall.

Did you have any problem at all with the dealership in convincing them to do this under recall?

Thanks,

Ken 300D (no trap ox)

I did not have any problems getting it changed out

To my understanding the trap oxidator has to be changed out regardless of condition or milage as previously mentioned. Some rural mercedes shops may try to get away with out performing the recall as they may plead that they were unaware (not as busy the problem has not come up much or tought crap where else are you going to go)

I live near chicago so there are alot of dealers and awareness is better. Also the bulk of their business in not repairing these older mb they know about the new ones.

Just ask the part guys any thing about the older cars and they act like you are asking them about ford pintos.

To my knowledge the campaign is to replace the trap and associated pipes and if there is any evidence of turbo damage to replace the turbo also.

Here is a side thought however, (althought I did not employ this tatic)

I have another brother who works for the phone company. He often does extra work for customers for which he does not charge them for as a courtosy. It is polite of offer compensation for their extra service and expertise. What I do when ever the phone guy comes to my house is descritely provide a tip before he begins any work. Some how the problem is always on their end of the line and not mine. Not only that they will do everything they can to help your situation.

IF you dealing with a dealer directly ask what you are entitled to by the campaign. If they dont say what we said here call corperate and have them send you written information about what they are supposed to provide. Call them back and if they dont comply have corperate contact them for you and have the corperate office be your middle man.

Also I have a brother who works at a dealer in florida. Every time I do down I buy the shop forman 2 bottles of his favorite wine. (its not cheap either but he likes it so I give it to him)
He is a real nice guy and I want him to know that I appreciate all of his help.

Thanks

bob
