1986 MB250TD Euro Model for US$5,000
Just saw this ad in our local paper. Imported from Europe, 5 speed tranny, No A/C, some wheel well fender rust repaired. No documented history or manual. Is US$5,000 a good buy?

I've never heard any good things about any MB 250xx cars. Everyone I have seen said it's a nightmare engine.

If I am correct, it's the same engine as in the 190D 2.5. Sounds like a decent price for such a rare car, especially with the 5-speed.

Yeah, it's just an om602. Almost exactly 5/6s of what we got in the 1986/1987 300D and TD. Same basic engine as our early 90s 300D.
I think this is waaay too much money for this car. Think what it costs for a decent US spec car of the same vintage. How much would you pay for a US car with no history and unknown milage? This car is going to have a certain pain-in-the-neck factor associated with ownership, because nobody is going to want to source parts for it. So I think it's worth less than an equivalent US model. Rare? No, not really. It's uncommon in the US, but the taxi of choice in much of the rest of the world. - JimY |
