. I did from NJ to Beverly hills and it was $594.00 (that's depot to depot).
How long ago was that? You're right, I did get a better quote over the phone than over the net, but it's not much cheaper than the SeaRail quote (couple hundred), but taht was to Lakewood, and when you consider it's a 4 hr drive down, and 4 hrs back (and may need to take time off work).. not really worth it.

I do have another quote coming, but so far it's looking like rail is cheapest. This is what I discovered last time I checked in to having a car shipped.

Here is a directory of shipping companies, if anyone is looking to do this. car shippers

That was about 5 minutes ago.

You better triple check the rail quote you're getting. I'd imagine you're going to see some other fees, etc.

I just can't see how rail is going to be cheaper... but I guess...

What kind of quote did DAS give you?

Considering NJ is more East -- I'd say that's not a good deal -- but what do I know... the car isn't even here yet.

They quoted me $1009US to Lakewood. Converting the SeaRail quote to US funds it's about $1300, but they are bringing it quite a bit closer (DAS's quote to Bellingham was $1400US). You may be right about more fees... it doesn't include a broker fee, but near as I can tell I will have to pay that anyway. Unless I can find a shipper who is also a broker.

I'm still checking around, trying to get the best rate. jhahn, I just requested a quote from Caronatruck. They'll get back to me.

Thanks! I'll keep you posted on progress!

Lakewood, where? US or Canada...

Let me know the zipcodes to and from... (or the Canadian versions...)...

$1000+ --- doesn't sound right to me at all!

Lakewood is outside of Tacoma Washington. I don't have a zip, sorry. The zip the car is coming from is 29615. Does your brother Vinney work for DAS or something? Maybe you get da 'family' discount.:p

Ok,

From the absolute two greatest distances:

FROM: West Palm Beach, FL 33413 (located 2.2 miles from west palm beach, FL 33402)
TO: Lakewood, WA 98499 (located 39.3 miles from seattle, WA 98101)

$940.00

Now, seeing how your car is in the Carolinas... IIRC... I'd say around $900 should do ya. You may want to see about the $89 for the insurance... but other than that...

Good luck. Lovey is due here in the morning! :-) :-) :-)

I feel like an expecting dad!

FROM: Simpsonville, SC 29680 (located 13.4 miles from Greenville, SC 29615)
TO: Lakewood, WA 98499 (located 39.3 miles from seattle, WA 98101)

$920

I must sound like I work for them or somthing. :p

I swear I don't. The reason I'm posting is because my wife and I thought it would be cool to fly down to Florida... we could have gotten flights for $137 total one way for BOTH of us. We were ready to do it, then we got chicken and thought... what if we break down... blah blah blah... so we went for the $550 door to door deal...

So, Jassz, did you ever get the latest car to BC? What method did you go with. Haven't heard any thing lately from up there in the cold north.

Hey, thanks for asking!

No, we haven't gotten the car... yet. First there was a delay in the payment reaching him. I hate Canada Post . Registered mail has to be the slowest form of mail there is. I guess 'registered' means the pony has to stop at more outposts or something. :p I think the previous owner was starting to doubt my 'cheque is in the mail' line.:p Anyway, the payment finally reached him early last week, so now my car is 'in the mail'. :p The owner left a message for me Friday saying that they were picking up the car Saturday morning. I phoned him Friday night, and got his wife, all in a panic because they had LOST the original title certificate, and the truck was at the door (they came a day early). The shipper was very specific that the original title had to come up WITH the car. Anyway, I guess the truck took the car, but he has to go to the motor vehicle office and get another title on Monday, and have it fedexed to the SeaRail office in Detroit (which I guess where my Buttercup is tonight). If things go in 'typical' fashion, there will be great delays in the paperwork actually connecting up with the car. I guess he is also goign to have to mail the stereo to me, as he had that out of the car when the truck arrived (he wasn't expecting them then).

So... once the paper work is in place, Buttercup will cross the border. Then she'll catch a train in Toronto and come across Canada on the rail. I've ALWAYS wanted to take the train across Canada, now my car is doing it without me!

I'm sort of expecting her by the end of next week, but wouldn't mind if it took a little longer. Hubby is trying to strip the parts car so we can at least be rid of one car in the driveway. The rust on the parts car makes it difficult to even jack up safely, so in some ways it's difficult. On the upside, he was able to remove the emerg brake with a sharp 'yank'. :p

I'm hoping they deliver the car after dark, cause the neighbours are going to think we have 'a problem'. :p

Unhappy

Update:

Nearly a month after PAYING for shipping, my Buttercup is STILL sitting at the border in Michigan!

It's not been all the shipping company's fault, but I really really really wish they wouldn't ahve picked up teh car without the paper work in order. I KNEW that would cause major grief. So that delay has moved us in to colder weather, and the car has sat for longer.... and now they can't get her started. She is plugged in, but it's just a no-go (She did start once, but then they had to take her back because the paperwork wasnt' ready). So now they have to send a tow truck down to get her. It's looking unlikely that I will have her by Christmas.

If only she had sat warm and snug in South Carolina until the title was found, this wouldn't be a problem. But I guess hindsight is always 20-20.

At least the guy I"m dealing with now is NICE to me.
