I believe that I have all maintenance records between the car's original purchase and 190K miles, and I got the car at 223K miles. The tranny could have been rebuilt in that 30K mile gap, but I would venture to guess that it hasn't.
If the tranny dies and my hip can handle the clutch, I'd like to do a 4 speed conversion...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's considered that.....I would enjoy driving my 87 190D Turbo if it had a 5 speed manual. I can feel how the car should have been a stick to begin with. Any estimates on what it would cost to do a conversion, feasability of doing it etc.? I suppose you could use the transmission out of a 240 or a manual shifter 190...though I don't know if those are 4 speeds or 5. In the meantime, I guess I'll just dream. Currently the engine and transmission are all original at 165,000 miles.
