Ol' Silver, an '84 Euro 240D manual is at 533,000 miles but no longer counting. If I can ever get my employment situation worked out I hope to put her back on the road and at least take it to 1,000,000 kilometers (633,000 miles.

Happy Thanksgiving,

RWHP & Torque ? Response

DslBnz,

No idea on rear wheel horse power or torque. Has never been on a dyno. Wish I knew. If I find out, will let you know.

Ditto here. My SDL, according to mercedes500.de weighs 1810kg unloaded(not curb)and does 0-100km/h in 15.2 secs can go 195km/h(119mph)with 145hp and 195 lb/ft of torque. Of course that's with the trap oxidizer in place.

My SDL does that in about 8 second range. She puts out up to 16 psi depending on how much pedal I give it, and gets on average 28mpg. I taped my car using a digital video camera doing this, so I could prove it. Many people on benzworld.org thought I was a nut for making such claims; until I got the DV camcorder!;)

My movie is being sponsored by 500sec.com. The webmaster, Peter I believe, will put up anything a Mercedes enthusiast might enjoy that you submit.

Did you see my avatar? Well, that's all oil-burning frenzy at 139mph.

turbodiesel 11-27-2003 10:42 PM

300SDL or 350SD at 139mph?

DslBnz 11-27-2003 11:57 PM

300SDL.

Not the 350. The 350 can't make it past 115 mph. The redline limiter will not permit it to go further.:(

The 350 has a deeper note when winding up then a 300 does. It sounds better. The 300 sounds just like the E300 turbodiesel. In fact it sounds EXACTLY like it. Same engine, different head I guess.

The 350 is very quiet at normal highway speeds(70 - 80mph) when my 300 is not. Once you get past 90 - 95mph it quiets down.;)

My '82 SD has 304,000 on it, engine and transmission were rebuilt at 200,000, '86 SDL has 260,000 original engine and transmission.

That's amazing. Must have taken 10 miles to get to that speed.

DslBnz 11-28-2003 08:41 PM

turbodiesel, next time I will make a video of that little "stunt". Then you can judge for yourself!:)

It really didn't seem to take that long at all. At around 5K, it starts to slow down a bit. The fuel gets cut back along with the boost courtesy of the overspeed governor.

I know this isn't my car, as mine has the 12-valve head, but here is the torque curve of an E300 turbodiesel(other than the 24-valve head and intercooler, virtually the same setup). Pulls like heck up until 4800 rpm.;)

For a little comparison, here's a 270CDI chart,

http://www.ejzcars.com/kfmercedes-27...56ps-330nm.gif

If you notice, the torque curve for the OM606 is flat almost to redline. Pretty impressive. It hauls butt up to its top speed. My car does this too, hills ain't a problem.:p

I know its hard to swallow, and you may be skeptical if you wish. At least until I get that video posted.
;)

1984 300D 322,000
1993 300D 180,000

turbodiesel 11-29-2003 02:36 PM

Fastest I had mine was 115.. seems to take a while after 100. It felt like it had more but didn't want to risk jailtime being it would have taken a long time to get to top speed. I'll tell you, that car is solid as a rock at any speed.

1983 300SD daily driver that my father-in-law put many miles on.

Now at 433,000 and climbing.

Rebuild engine at 385,000
Swapped transmission at 415,000

dkoch255 05-25-2004 08:08 PM

230,000 and runs like a charm.

Veloce300DT 05-25-2004 08:40 PM

My Orient red 84 300DT in storage has 524K miles!!!!!

Original Engine
Original Transmission.

I inherited the car from a family friend, and for the past 5 years has been used as an in town car for errands and such. The engine has been religiously well kept, but all of the other things on it are gone- No A/C, Heat, drivers window is the only one that works, power door locks gone, etc etc etc.. It runs well but burns oil. Its basically has en engine, brakes, stereo and a three pointed star on the hood. Body is in great shape. Interior sun damaged.

A fun junker car. Saving it for body parts. Maybe restoration far down the road.

But can you believe 524K miles on the ORIGINAL ENGINE and TRANNY!?!?!
