Keeping up with Peyton

I was inspired by Peyton's new seats and decided it was about time to install those seat covers I bought for Marlene last summer. I think they look pretty good.

I rebuilt my seatback netting too!

Sitting in Area 51, waiting for installation:

What I've been sitting on for the last 15,000 miles

These were out of a late '70 or early '80 240D...I got them for $25 at the bone yard. They were in better condition than the original seats when I got the car and it allowed me time to rebuild the original ones at my leisure.

Ah I see...I ask 'cause, while my seats are otherwise okay, the leather (not MB-Tex) covers are in really sorry shape, and if you're going to toss the old covers otherwise, I might be interested. I know they're MB-Tex, and that's okay...I don't like vinyl or leather. I wish that the OEM cloth seat covers were readily available on this side of the pond...

The old covers are in pretty sorry shape. They wouldn't be much good after you pulled them off the seat.

You might try calling Jim at JJ Products, ph 800-654-2356
(http://www.jjproducts.net/Mercedes/) and see if he'll crank out a set in cloth instead of leather or MB-Tex. You'd probably have to get creative with some foam padding so that the horsehair cushons didn't print through the cloth and look ugly. It would be interesting to see how something like this turned out.

He made these covers and my (to be installed) carpet set and I have absolutely no qualms about recommending him. Top-notch workmanship and great customer service too.

Tell him I (Randy Leo) sent you.

Thumbs up Wow!

Those seats look wonderful. Are you considering doing anything with your middle seat (if it's in as bad shape as your front seats were)? I'd like to do something like this to my seats. I definately think they need to be rebuilt or something because they don't sit up as high as yours or Peytons (or some others I've seen). They're kinda flat and bent down. I'd also like to re-cover them as well. My rear seat is okay, but on the sides there is this cloth like material (that I never noticed was there when I got the car) and it's torn (on both sides, back rest and seat bottom area)

You can see photos of my car by following the link in my signature (copy and paste into browser).

Yup, the driver's seat is about 1" higher now...I had to readjust all of my mirrors :-)

Hehe...almost immediately after completing this project I regretted my decision to 'wait' on purchasing covers for the middle seat (it certainly doesn't match now but, it spends almost all of it's time folded down)...In fact, I plan to call Jim first thing Monday to find out how much a cover for that middle (actually the back seat cuz, I don't have a third seat) seat is going to set me back.

I honestly cannot see how it can be all that much and, after doing these two, putting them on that bench will be a cake walk (the seat backs were a PITA...today my hands feel like I've gone 5 with George Foreman.

After driving some on these new seats, I'm thinking seriously about pulling them out and adding some high density foam between the horsehair and the cover on the seat bottoms. IMHO , they're a shade too much of the Teutonic, board-on-a-set-of-springs to suit me.

Too bad you could not work up the interest in putting some of this busy beaver attitude on that poor negleted Buick... Is the sale final ?
You can come out here any weekend you run out of projects there at your house...
