Is that the dash and console that you removed from the donor car, and the pics are of them installed in your driver?

That dash is a royal B*tch, especially the center a/c vent lines. Looks good, congrats on all the hard work. I definately know the feeling when you say your hands hurt.....

Yes.....

I am comparing my parts against the donor and using the best. The dash, center console, center wood, ash tray, switches, sun visors, Ignition switch, turn signal, cruise control swtich, a couple of vacuum pods, climate control, tach/clock gauge, gauge housing, B and C pillar covers, Front and Back leather seats with seat plastic trim, seat belts (front and rear) carpet, a couple of the door panels, seat switches and hat shelf are coming in from the donors interior.

I can see at least a dozen cuts/scrapes and couple of dozen more that didn't cause bleeding.

The center rubber vent tube and the cable for the rear cabin area were by far the worst. I took my time and a number of meditation breaks to control the frustration. I wanted it perfect and didn't rush it.

In some places my hands needed to be 1/3 their size.

meditation breaks

OK, that is another reason it takes me 4x as long to do any job than anyone else.... I definately have to SLOW DOWN and take a break every once in a while to think about the best way to solve a problem....

I so know what you mean about that big red

Restoration?

Hey bigred, you rebuilding your 126 from scratch or is this a restoration project? I noticed you are in california and wondering if I can help. I haven't really assembled a car before, just dismantaling them to get the parts I wanted at pick-a-part locations. I'm assuming it shouldn't be that hard (I have small hands)

Sure now you tell me! (kidding)

I bought a 83SD for myself which had a great motor and body, but some of the cabin was rough. My first effort was to gut it to clean it and evalaute what parts I needed to make it mint.

My goal is to make the car as close to mint as possible. I will then decide if I am going to keep it or sell it depending on the value.

A person I know had a minor accident, which ripped the bottom open and he gave it to me in exchange for helping him get into another MB diesel. It is an 83 SD, with the same Palomino color. Many of the parts in that care were mint or hear mint and so the process began.

After the interior parts I am not keeping are sold, I am going to move onto the suspension, then the drivetrain and finally the body.

Being that she is all back together, your little hands are a bit to late. However if you want to hook up to exchange storoes or work on our cars, be happy too.

Don

Oh ok, well. I've seen your other thread, very impressive job. I'm thinking about redoing my interior gray, its currently black and gets VERY HOT during the summer time. I guess i'll let you know when i get some money together and find a W124 interior set for sale. ;

Don't know how you would feel about it, but you could do a combo of grey and black. It will cut the cost down or at least change the cashflow you will expereince. If the black is in great shape then I would have to guess it will bring as much as the grey will cost.

Example:

Black carpet, grey center console, grey seats, black and grey door panels (perf part in grey) with the balance in black.

I almost gave up on those center console vents..... I finally put those in first and then fit slipped the dash in around them, it was the only way i could figure out how to do it. Midget sized hands would definately be a plus for a job like this....especially when trying to re-connect the slide controls!

hey bigred, that would be a really cool idea. My interior is still in really good shape, with the exception of a few scuff marks on the glovebox door, other than that its very good shape and would probably be worth something. Just interested in gray door panels, seats, dashboard, and other miscellaneous components. Carpets would be nice as black since you can't tell most stains. Are all steering wheels black or were they color matched to the interior?

The steering wheel is black on all cars. The only parts of the dash that are color specific, start under the wood. Door panels are 100% color specific as is the center console.

Are the seats leather or tex?

You can break down the changeover into sections and there is a good possibility of using special paints (if you have the need or desire to do it for less money) for alot of the interior parts.

Mike Tangas did the interior of his 560 SEL in a sort of two-tone.

If you go back and look at his posts, he bought his car from a recycling yard. The previous owner was driving the car on the freeway, and the flex disc gave out, and the driveshaft banged against the transmission tunnel and set off the airbag (the airbag sensor is above the driveshaft).

The car was totalled and ended up at a junkyard. The transmission tunnel was disfigured. Mike had to reshape the metal to reshape the transmission tunnel and also crafted a new metal piece to line it.

Anyhow, the center console got beat up. The interior on his car is a light cream color (maybe Palomino). He couldn't find another palomino center console at the junkyard, but they did have a nice black one, so he installed it.

In a strange way, it works. Even though the rest of the interior is mainly Palomino, the dash it black, so it looks like a continuation of the dash.

I think he posted pictures at one time.

Just thought I'd share.
