Tool needed for draining MTF on a 240D

Can anyone tell me where I can get that 14 mm allen wrench or socket to drain the manual transmission? I can't find it anywhere, though I haven't tried the dealer yet. I tried Kragen, Lowes, Pep Boys and Sears with no luck.

Have you checked in your car carefully ? It may be the same one that fits the engine drain plug and the differential drain and refill plugs....

Advance Auto or Autozone. That's where I got all my hex bits. More than sufficient quality and good price.

Go to any hardware store. In the industrial section, u can get an industrial allen wrench ( for about $5.00) that will do the job.

These industrial allen wrenches r pretty big. U may need a persuasion bar to help u loosen the drain plug.

If u cannot find a 14mm allen wrench, 9/16 is the same thing.

13mm --- 1/2
14mm --- 9/16
19mm --- 3/4
22mm --- 7/8
24mm --- 15/16

Hope this helps

Thanks guys. Before I read your replies I stopped by AutoZone where I normally don't go and I was surprised to find a 14 mm hex bit socket as part of a 3-socket set so I grabbed it. Unfortunately it was too long to fit into the filler plug because the space is kind of tight there. Those filthy Germans... Then I read these replies and called Ace Hardware which didn't have anything useful but they referred me to a tool-specialist store called Harbor Freight Tools and they had an 8-piece hex key set including a 14 mm one which did the job. Since it fit the differential plugs too I changed the fluid there too. All the plugs were super-tight but the hex key worked great when I applied all-out force.

Well, maybe I'm going to need the HF set too. Have not changed the MT fluid on Cinderella yet and did not consider that the socket wrench with socket might not fit.

Can you post the stock number for the set you bought at HF?

Anway we all love Harbor freight cause they are (cheap China) "Tool-Specialist". The closest one to me is 3 hours away.

Coachgeo, so you don't think HF is a tool-specialist? I don't know much about them and yesterday was the first time I went to one, but it did seem to me they had nothing but tools. And they saved my day because no one else had the tool I needed.

Ken, the item # is 46405 and it's called 8 Pc. Jumbo Hex Key Set. It's only $10.

You miss read my jest. Harbor Freight is great dont get me wrong...... and yes they are "basically" tool specialist..... its just funny to hear that term used with them. They are not Mac tools or the likes, which is what I would consider a tool specialist. Course neither is their prices.

Guess all I'm saying is they are a "cheap knock off" of a tool specialist. Wait........ lol.... that is exactly what I said earlier. Anyway for weekend wrenchers their stuff is good to marginal quality. For those who live by their tools daily their stuff ranges from break and replace each use to marginal in quality. Thats all just fine it fits a needed nitch in the market.

Like I said earlier I love the place, my pocket loves the place and I hate that here in my new home town the closest one is 3 hours away.
