Heard of whom? They don't exactly say who they are.

How can the same long block fit 3.0 and 3.5 applications? Maybe the high bidder can choose.

The two reputable shops I've heard of, Metric and Adsit, won't rework an old 603.96x head. They sell long blocks with new heads.

Plus if not for head cracks there's no reason to rebuild a 603.96x.

Will they take a 603.97x core with bent rods?

Talked to him

I talked to this gentleman when I was looking for a head for my 300SDL. He said he would ship the engine necessary for your application and quoted $6500 direct sale. Seemed very knowledgable said he didn't use questionable casting numbered heads but had a very good european source(that he would not share). That's all I know just thought I'd share.

Stephen:

Yes, I know the shop. His name is Noel and he's been doing Benz stuff for years. He has done work for me over the years on diesels and lately he has been into other things, like rebuilding 12 cyl motors for Benz.

He has a nice shop and is extremely knowledgeable. I know he was buying wrecked Benzes and reselling after repairs, etc.

A real decent fellow, in my opinion. He is friends with a buddy of mine who is the local State Attorney and Noel did work on his 500SL.

feedback

Thanks for all of your supportive answers; I will give him a call. I have seen therads where a new numbered 350 head was put on a 300sdl block. seems lke that would solve most of the problems; but the head cost as much as a whole rebuild from the dealer.
