Two quick vac questions.

Take a look at this:

(1) See where the "63" joins two three-ways? Ok, well, why not put a 4way there instead? I mean, what's the point of using two 3 ways? The "63" doesn't look like it does anything other than act as a double male to connect the two females.

(2) See the #72 green surge damper... ok, I just want to make sure mine is working right. I can SUCK on both ends and air goes through... but I can only BLOW on one end. Is this right?

Thanks,

GD

#63 is an orifice, it is modifying the amount of vacuum available to the components on the other side of the orifice (opposite to the supply side). It's not just "joining them together" it is a component.

You'll notice #62 is an orifice too. That's why people get in trouble when they break good ol' #62 off the booster line with their elbow, then hook up the vacuum line to "c" (right next to it, which ISN'T an orifice, then wonder why none of their vacuum controls work right. "c" is used for things like the vacuum locks and the AC system.

Hi GottaDiesel.

Shouldn't be to expensive at the dealer.

How about Fastlane?

$6.83 at performance products.

oh oh, I changed that (#63) for a cross while looking for vacuum leak.
Changed most all the little vacuum hoses under the hood.
Good thing I did not toss out those "y's", will be putting them back in.
What a great place we are in here, so much to learn!
Thanx to all!

Cool! Glad my post could help.

I looked up that part, the site is telling me (UGH!) that MY car doesn't have that part... UGH UGH UGH!

Now I need a favor! Can somebody with an 83 300TD (or I would guess 300D) PLEASE take a look and see if THEY have it.

Thanks,
Pete

P.S. at this point, I'm going to just install that one and see if the transmission does anything funny... but I'd still like to know for my own... thanks agian.
