Rear End Question
Our 1980 TD had a turbo motor installed, by the previous owner. No idea about the transmission or the rear gears
It seems to me to run at higher RPM and I am thinking that the rear end and maybe the transmission might be from the original non-turbo wagon. Being that I have an extra SD rear end and transmission should I do a swap? Open for suggestions Thanks Don

I was curious about this same thing the other day...so, I crawled under leathermang's non-turbo parts wagon (dunno what year 79-80???) and it has what appears to be a 3.56:1 drive ratio. In comparison, my 1983 300TD has a 3.07:1 ratio.
I'd go for the swap if at all possible...for reference, my cars both turn about 3100rpm @ 70mph. But, I don't know if those pumpkins are interchangeable...the one on Greg's parts car has a finned rear cover that looks different from the ones on my wagon and sedan (which, BTW is also a 3.07:1).
