Oil Separator Return Line Leak (heads-up)

Marlene the Wonder Wagon recently developed a new oil leak...periodically she goes through this if I've overfilled (above halfway between the marks on the dipstick) the lube oil but this time it was worse than ever with drips coating the right side of the engine and propagating all along the tranny area.

Thinking that it was the nefarious turbo drain, I crawled under her last night to see if I could determine the exact source of the leak.

To my surprise, it wasn't the turbo drain at all! It was the drain from the in-filter oil separator. Somehow, the drain tube had come adrift and was allowing the oil from the separator to drain out on top of the turbo bearing pack. I know what you're thinking but, I do know to install the filter housing correctly and attach the drain, so something had happened that allowed the drain to pop out of place.

It turns out that the outboard rubber mount for the airfilter housing had split through the rubber and was allowing the filter assembly to sometimes flop up and down far enough (probably during a low vacumm shutdown) to permit the drain to pop out of place.

I replaced the stupid rubber mount with a 30mm long, M6 bolt threaded up through the "T" mount and sandwiched a rubber bushing found in my parts drawer (probably left from an ancient shock change) between the filter housing and the '"T" mount. The assembly is solid but the jury is still out to discover the long-term effect of running with a rigid mount.
