1987 300TD Trap Oxydizer

I just received my 1987 300TD. I noticed that the trap oxydizer is still installed. Is this still a recall item and if it is, do I call any dealer to have it removed? If it is not, has there been any engine damage as a result?

Thanks,

Call your nearest dealer and see what they say. If you have exceeded the replacement milage or it is plugged, they will replace it.

In the mean time, just drive it. When it plugs, it will whistle as the seal between the trap and the exhaust blows out, and performance is, well, unexciting. Normally, this car will do 0-60 in about 10 sec or so. with the trap plugged it won't!

I just had mine done at mercedes.

3300 dollars in parts (at their cost)

they gave me a new turbo and full exaust for free

They also gave me a new ml to drive for a week until it was done.

THe car still does not run but that is another story.

She will fly as soon as I am done with it.

I am replacing the overboost sensor and swithover valves. all the rubber and plastic tubing

clean out the vacuum oriface on the vacuum pump.

And adust the throttle and transmission bowden cables. (have not finished yet as i am waiting for the parts)

Then the car should haul some diesel #$$

Also change out the fuel filters

The car you have was probalbly neglected like mine was. OTherwise the person would have gotten the trap oxidator fixed a long time ago.

good luck

email me if you need any help

Egads, man, get that thing offa there! The dealer will do it all free, and they are paid to inspect the turbo as well. If there is any turbo damage, they give you a new turbo as well - free. If the turbo is OK, they do NOT replace it. Some dealers try to weasel out of this job, or claim you're not entitled to it, or whatever. If so, print out the following three documents, and go beat them over the head with it - plainly states the details of the recall:

Car goes to dealer on Friday. Dealer says VIN shows recall is open and they have 3 of the 4 parts that are needed. The last one will arrive tomorrow. I will post new pictures afterwards.
