I love this description:

INTERIOR

Excellent Dashboard
No Cracks or Fading

What are they smoking? And what car did they use to take the interior shots?????

Not only are there huge dash cracks, but they used some sort of cheap filler to treat them. Oh, and the driver's side door panel looks like a replacement - hasn't weathered evenly w/ the others. Oh, and the tach is doesn't work. Oh and although you can't be sure, i think those seats are MB-Tex, not leather.

The car doesn't look that bad for the bid price that its up to now ($530.00). Sure the dash looks like hell but thats nothing a cover wouldn't hide. As with anything look before buying!

If this car is an '82, why does it have 124 interior? Or am I just missing something?

Some things I noticed...

Front headrests have dark brown piping at the edges.. never seen this -- have they been recovered?

LCD temp gauge in cluster looks dead

Carpet insert in centre console (under armrest) looks completely sun bleached. No pictures of console wood near window switches -- I'd assume the clearcoat is cracked all over

Both front seat bottoms look REALLY lumpy. I'm sure they're better to look at than to sit on!

Fuel reserve light -- almost no fuel in tank but reserve light isn't on (although it may be that there is still enough fuel before the light comes on..)

Is the steering wheel recovered? My '83 didn't look this way.. looks like something from Pep Boys

Either the door panels are from another car, or at least the pictures were taken of a different vehicle. Total color difference in all of the panels vs. the rest of the interior.

I hope nobody buys this thing.. it will only convince some unsuspecting buyer that old MB's are junk when they're really not (this one certainly is!)

Itsa no reserve auction with 100% positive sales rating....... What are these guys cryin about??

Thatsa typical dealership listing where everything is listed as "excellent" by default setting on their computer, probably set up by secretary who doesnt know beans about the car.

The car is a 124 with leather interior and how on earth anybody can judge fading of interior color based on digital camera pics that are infinitely adjustable is mystery to me.

Sure the car looks great and the mileage is incredibly low.... maybe thats why everybody is takin pot shots at it. Prices have come way, way down lately - itsa buyers market and the car looks pretty good to me for the price its gettin.

The less than accurate listing. When I hear "no cracks" I expect that to mean no cracks. My definition of "excellent" usually involves items actually working. If the seller had simply said he had a low miles, running 300 SD, I would have had no problem at all. However, I do take your point that we may be getting a bit too picky. For example....

Well, if this is a 124 interior, then my 82 300 SD must have one too.... It looks like every 126 interior I've seen.

Now let's not get carried away. The early SD's didn't have outside temperature displays. This is perfectly normal for that year car.

I see 80s MBs with dark piping all the time. I'm told that's how the piping reacts to sunlight.

As mentioned, no outside temp gauge in 83s.

Cheap wrap on the steering wheel. Tennis racket grip tape might look better

He has a good recent string of positive feedback and most of the transactions are for cars. A couple of privates, a couple of reserves and mostly on the low side of eBay final prices.

At the rate he goes through cologne, its'a good thing he's an eBay seller

On second look, I belive it has a tex interior that was poorly restuffed or needs to be. I can run the VIN through the EPC to see if it should have leather or tex if anyone's interested. The color of the driver's door trim is possibly an optical illusion. It's a better match from other angles. In light of all that the dash does look to be in curiously worse condition. I've seen similar results from Armor-All startvation - use Armor-All for a while then quit cold turkey. The plastic dries up and cracks. If you must polish your dash, try STP Son-of-a-gun. It doesn't cause problems when you stop using it. Something tells me it's been repainted.
