My SD is sitting in Arlington Heights Mercedes-Benz!

My dad took my car to Des planes (sp?) Illinois and it wouldn't start this morning. It got down to -15 last night there and it wasn't plugged in because the block heater I have isn't in yet. He had it towed to Arlington Heights MB. The mechanic there mentioned they may change the oil and replace the battery. I have Delvac Synthetic in it now and the battery was replaced in July! Although, the car has leaked through the oil pan enough that I have added 2 quarts of 20-50 oil to top it off. Would that have made a difference even with the synthetic? Any good reasonable ideas that they should maybe follow? My dad told them that it should at least need to be warmed up. It has been in their shop for 2 hours now. He doesn't know what they're going to do. Would the fuel just have gelled stopping it fror starting?ad said he went through about 5 glow plug cycles before even trying to start it this morning. (at the Marriot) He said it didn't even try to fire, it just kept turning over. Please let me know what you think.
Thanks
David

I wouldn't replace anything until the car warms up. Check the oil level. Let the car warm up in the shop and then see what it will do. If the battery is dead and won't accept a charge replace it. Your dad or mech. can get some WD-40 and spray in the intake to aid in starting.

Even with Delvac1 my SD won't start on a morning like this. It's in a non-heated garage and no block heater. It will crank like gang busters but no start even after a couple of glow cycles. I hope your father is coming home tonight. Even my 96 Civic protested this morning but started.

The local independent is literally just up the street, called Foreign Car Clinic. Usually a stable of Italian, British, and German iron out front. It's also on Northwest Highway in Arlington Heights. West of Mark Motors which is probably where the car is.

Is Mark Motors and official MB dealer or is it the same thing as Arlington Heights MB?
Thanks for the speedy response

Why a new battery if it turns over?

my dad just called and he is on his way home. He should be here in 4 hours. They charged him for like 1.2 hours labor and 14 or so in parts? They replaced the oil filter maybe and some oil that I had in my trunk. Overall is cost him $155.00 excluding the tow. Which allstate covers that anyways.
Thanks
David

I'm glad they/he got it started and it was something relatively easy.

Uhm yeh (swallowing hard)....I think the per hour labor rate was around $85-90 the last time I looked. I haven't had anyhting done there but they do have a decent parts counter. With all the competition in the area their prices are reasonable especially for gotta' get it now and too bulky to ship items.

Looks like a good application for a Blue Heat:

Blue Heat

I'm wondering if it could be used to heat vegetable oil in preparation for combustion. If it is as good as they say it should be almost as good as moving south.

I have read they seen not to work well on WVO. (Reported by Dana one of the Guru's of WVO) Maybe a small tank of diesel to run the Webasto off of would do the trick.

My thought was to run the Webasco unit on diesel to heat a separate tank of filtered wvo. It would be a way around waiting for the engine coolant to get hot enough and circulate through the wvo to make it ready for injection.
