I just had my rear window removed and a new seal replaced, I paid $82.00 for the seal [MB part] and $100.00 to remove and install the rear window. The guy used a long wand like tool with a razor like blade, he cut the old seal about in the middle and then used a L shaped tool with a hook on the short part end and with both hands went around the seal and sort of pealed it open and then went inside the car and worked back and forth, side to side until the window kind of just pooped out. The razor tool was about 1 foot long. My car is a 83 sd steve

I did mine myself 'cause if its gonna break I wanted to be the one breaking it! Wasn't too tough but a few drops of dishwashing soap/water in a spray bottle makes it very easy to pop in using the rope trick. I had to use hte MB sealant on both the glass/rubber and rubber/metal seams to get mine to stop leaking. YRMV..... Do a search, I posted when I did mine. RT

I've examined the rear seal on my W124 and it looks like it's still rubber seal. I know they glue the windshield in place=)

For the replacement glass if it's broken. You should be able to find a suitable W123 in a junkyard in your area.. ask for 240 or 300 diesel. It should be about $50-75.

If the old seal is not too hard, you can simply pull the inner lip down and push gently while someone out side holds the glass. If it's very hard, I cut the inner lips off with a boxcutter. Not something to rush. That's where the pro's can use a heated tool that's going to be faster.

I paid $75, expect more in a larger city like Hotlanta.

There is a rubber windlace around the windows on the W124 to hold the trim down, I guess. The glass is glued in, front and rear.

I know, I had to have the windshield replaced on the TE, I had no desire to do it myself.

Yes. Have a care on the front corners, it tends to peel back up.

Use the factory cement if you can get it, 3M is OK, but finicky on those front corners.

Awesome!!

Great...
Thats good to know - water sitting and creeping through the back sill to the trunk is bound to spell doom.
did you use the sealer...or do it dry????
Let us know-
Jake

sealer

I believe they used a sealer, ( I can see some black goop). I had it replaced at a glass shop "OBriens Glass" in Augusta GA. My wife took the car in , so I did not see the procedure..

I plan to do the front windshield, and the trunk seal, since the trunk seal has some cuts in it..

im not trying to tell you what to do - but if your front glass is showing its age you can get a PPG part for about $180, with or with out the tinted top - if your a die hard OEM...i have no clue what that glass costs...just throwing it at you.
Jake

when i first drove mine with the new windshield, i did not believe there was glass there - it was awesome, i thought id be eating bugs and wind.

Always available with alternative ( hopefully cheaper) ideas...

If you check the Eastwood Co site or catalog.... they used to sell a " glass scratch repair" kit... with various grades of grit and lubricant and a thing which would fit into a regular drill.... presto, no scratch....

oK,,, try this....

http://www.eastwoodco.com/itemdy01.asp?Dep_Key1=plagla&T1=40030&I1.x=20&I1.y=46

However, that seems kinda expensive to me... so you might check with local ' scientific glass' companies in your area.... you need several grits going all the way to ' can't feel it ' smooth... LOL
