Probably a pipe dream

While looking at some junkyard websites I came across a used 300d engine (1985). I called and they want 1000 bucks for it.

I looked at a 240 manual transmission that needs an engine earlier this week.

Hmm...

1000, maybe 800 for engine...3-500 for the manual 240...

How much for someone to install this for me?---Way beyond something I could do myself.

Don't really have the money, but tax refund will be here soon.

$1,000 for a turbo engine or a non turbo engine? Sun Valley Auto Dismantlers sells the turbo engines for $1,250 if that is any indication. Can't keep them in stock. Important thing was if they could do a compression check B4 pulling the engine.

I think you can look around and find a 300d or dt for less than $2,000. Might need some work but you may run across a good deal. Keep looking.

I just picked up a clean 84 300D w/125K on the odometer for $3,000. $4,000 paint job 4 years ago and a factory rebuilt trans 4 years ago. Had an "open" vacuum hose for the trans (hard shift) and a plugged switchover valve. I now have a turbo that works and the trans shifts pretty well.

I just like the idea of having manual windows, ac controls, and transmission. It is a turbo engine, but it is already pulled.

It can be done, and in fact has been done by one of the members here - "Ridge". However, enough work is involved that you would not want to have to pay someone to do it. Would have to be a labor of love.

That's what I figured. I think I'll just look for a nice 240 to compliment my 300.
