I think the idea was to put the non-turbo 300D engine into your relatively clean car.

Pull ALL the glow plugs. Crank the engine. See if the engine is
pumping atomized fuel out the glow plug holes. You will know immedlately if the pump is doing its job. The engine should fog up a good size garage in no time flat. (CAUTION: DO THIS OUTSIDE) Do this before breaking the injector lines.
