Help!! "87 300D Won't Start

Hi all,

1987 300D.

Glo Plugs out but I have it plugged in. It has been starting in 0 degree weather with no problem. About 40 here today and it won't start. I checked the heater and it is warm.

Any Ideas?? I need to get on the road for a few appointments today!

Thanks,

Joe

Starter engages, engine turns over nice and fast, obviously with no start there is some whiteish smoke.

Check the fuse on the glow plugs -- it's under the cap on the relay. If broken (which it most likely is), you can TEMPORARILY bridge it to get the GP working. Don't leave it this way, if one shorts it will burn the relay out ($$$$), get a new fuse, it's less than a dollar. If it's intact, you need to check for current at the GP and the resistance of each -- replace if bad.

You will never get it started when really cold without the GP, and will burn the starter up trying.

The fuse has been replaced. I must have a few plugs out. However it has been starting with the block heater plugged in during all the cold weather we have had. I had the car plugged in overnight and the element is warm to the touch this morning, but no start. Car turns over very well, but not even a stutter.
