phantom alarm

recently I discovered the car alarm on my sdl... at the grocery store of all places. I unlocked the doors with the same old key, and HONK, HONK, HONK, HONK, etc.... I re-locked and unlocked the doors and it went off.

Now, the replacement key I have (made on the right machine, not a home depot special), that looks exactly the same as the one that usually works, always trips the alarm.
The alarm will work properly for 3 months, then go off if I'm parked next to a sleeping baby or something. ???

any ideas on the inconsistency? (besides loose connection somewhere?) why would it immediately be fixed when I lock/unlock again if it was just a loose connection?
Thanks!!
Kevin
