i have been told that the EURO models dont have stop buttons. could this car be an import? or maybe the IP was replaced with a euro IP?

mplafleur 03-02-2004 01:40 PM

It's at Roy's shop. The trouble was in the key switch.

He is going to look at the IP and let me know if I'm blind or not. I know my vision isn't anything like it used to be now that I'm approaching the mid-40's. It's probably 20-20 now. It used to be better than 40-20.

All OM60x engines I've ever seen (and I own five different ones including a 190D 2.5 normally aspirated model) have a shutoff lever. The emergency shutoff lever is held in place by a nut so if someone has removed the nut the lever could fall off. The lever is under the air intake plumbing and requires a 10-12+" long stick to reach it on my 601 as well as the 602/603 normally aspirated engines (it's right out in the open on the 602/603 turbos). A tube connected to the shutoff port and sucked on WILL usually shut the engine off unless the diaphragm has ruptured or the linkage is disconnected.

well hidden on this engine

Hello Everyone
Found the shut off lever, hidden under layers of road crud.
A long screw driver works best.
My fingers could not reach it from LF side.
Pictures are shot from RF side.

Yeah! That's my old ride. I miss it. If I can get rid of this Ford Tortise I' driving, I'm buyin' another 190D. Probably a 2.2 that I'll pass along to my daughter.

No wonder I never found it. You said you looked at it 4 times before realizing what it was. Plus I never looked from the other side. Always from the drivers side fender.

Thanks for the picture. Now other OM602 owners know where to look.

Ya see what the Texas sun did to the trunk clear coat?

We got salt, Texas got sun.

Grdenko 03-03-2004 11:40 AM

yeah, the finish on my trunk is looking a little sorry, the roof is just ok. the hood has fresh paint on it though, for reasons i wont go into!

I don't care where you live... 1 coat of wax a year will prevent that. But of course more is better. I am going to wax my baby here soon. Maybe this weekend. Nothing better than a freshly waxed car!!

whunter 03-04-2004 07:04 AM

sorry

Hello 190D22
Been there done that.
Texas UV is extreme for paint/clear coat, waxing every week does help, but will not stop the process.
Have a great day.
