CA catalyst haunting me.....

Took the SD apart again to install new intake/exhuast gasket and turbo o-rings. I noticed the catalyst was leaking around the flanges. (posted pics on an earlier thread) It seems it is a really strange setup and it will be very difficult to weld. Then I don't even think it will be worth the trouble once everything is put back together. So I guess I will make a jig so I can have a new pipe welded to meet the flanges or convert everything. That means I will have to search for all new stuff...$$$$$. My other option was to buy a new cataylst. Called the not-so-local MB dealer........$615 for the new catalyst. Looks like I'll be making that jig.

Jig:

First I just answered your e-mail direct to you. But I hadn't seen this. If you make jig you don't need what I said. Just the pipe and new gaskets.
Your is the easiest. I tried that and couldn't get someone to make a jig and weld it. What you will find is the rectangle flange is going to be some work to fit a pipe to. You will have to gut a trap and use the existing flanges or buy new flanges. They are on the net but tuff to find. They are called "Garret" flanges. Same one's used on Eclips turbos.
Good luck.

Thanks for both replies! I may be able to cut the ones off the cat I have. I think I am going to try and make a jig with the cat and then hand it over to my "source" to build. He suggested it but I don't think he wanted to spend the time making it.
Thanks

P.S. My "source" is this old guy who lives out in the middle of nowhere. He fixed my Subaru exhuast today. Charged me an enitre $30!!!!!!!!!!!! He told me he didn't know how long it would last and that he would build me an entire exhaust from the motor back for......$150!!!! That includes the "Y-pipe" on the car. IF any of you are familiar with the Soob "Y-pipe" you would be impressed too. This guy is like 75 years old and supposedly owns a silver mine in AZ and he does this stuff to keep him busy. I'm glad he quit smoking cigars, it is nice to have him around.
