The gasket blew out on the back of the head on the exhaust port. I have searched the site over the last several days and have recieved much needed help but am not clear on the removal of the pin that holds the left upper chain guide. Based on what I have read it appears to be pressed in? I have also got the impression that a slap hammer can be used or a bolt and washers to remove it? Does it sound like I am on the right track? Any advice is appreciated. This is truly a great site. __________________ Who needs spark plugs.

chainslap,
I have not had the need to do this to a 350SD/SDL so I am not certain about this. But on a 220D or a 240D the pin is pressed in from the front of the engine, and it has a threaded hole. I used a stack of washers with the hole bigger than the pin, and a nut on a bolt that threaded into the tapped hole. It worked fine (no room for a "slap hammer" or other impact type puller). Hope this helps, Jim
