non functional AC - where to start diagnosis
My 84 has a non- cooling AC.
The compressor engages, it appears as though there is resistance, so it appears the compressor is turning. There are around 55 psi of some sort of refrigerant in the low side port. I have done lots of searches here, but I am not really sure what the plan of attach should be. The AC was working (blowing cool not cold) last fall, but now appears to blow ambient temp. Anyone have specific next steps?

Sounds like it may be marginal on refrigerant. Do you know the history on the car? Sounds like someone may have tried to convert it to 134.

Are you saying you think R12 and R134a ( or something ) were mixed in your system ?
Do you know what kind of valves are used for each of the above ? and which are on your car ? They are very different.. so if everyone has followed the law that will tell you what you have in it... |

I have the exact same problem
On an '84 as well. Sometimes my switches don't work or have a somewhat delayed reaction. could the climate control unit be a culprit? I'd like to try to identify the problem myself rather than take the car to the shop.
